I’m guessing any previous Trimages were extremely dangerous. Probably unbalanced, not really thinking from a stable base. But if Kris thinks Mike is one, things could get interesting real fast.
I don’t know if this actually answers the question, but I thought you might find it interesting. From my notes:
“The rune language itself is composed not only of vocal tones, but of mental images. Thus, when one hears the language, the images will form in the listeners mind rather than be received audibly. The runes are extremely difficult to “pronounce” and do require frequent practice. The “pronunciation” calls for the correct vocalization (perfect pitch, tempo, and duration), pristine mental visualization, and uninterrupted willpower to control the magic energies.”
So if I wanted to put a picture in someone’s head completely involuntarily, all I have to do is find the right pronunciation? Also, what happens if a tape recorder is used and then played back?
Well, you’d be messing with powerful magic energy, so you probably wouldn’t want to do it willy-nilly.
As for the tape recorder, since the “pronunciation” of the runes is actually the appearance of the image in the mind, a tape recorder wouldn’t pick up anything at all. It would just be silence when played back.
@Septirath: Theoretically, yes, but it sounds like you’d pretty much have to be taught by someone already fluent in it so they could give you the right image in your head to focus on. Telepaths were almost certainly involved with the origin of the language, and pretty darn useful for the propagation.
So, I wonder if in the future he’ll try to tell Mike his suspicions, but he’ll try to write the word down, rather than say it aloud. Hopefully he’ll tell Mike not to say it out loud as well.
Looks like we’re about to get some background on previous trimagus’ actions. Great storytelling, by the way!

Ohcrap. Sucks to be you, Kristof! You’re gonna get arrested.
By the way, how do you pronounce those symbols?
(How to stump a cartoonist, lesson one….)

the one thing to say is that I read through every singe thing up to this one and didn’t stop smiling once. bookmarked
Ha-guuhhh… did you….
AURGH! YOU ANSWERED MY QUESTION!
I love being able to prove that I’ve actually thought about things in my comic. 😉
(Although not EVERYTHING…)
That’s… awesome. So… I could technically learn that language? *Hopeful face.*

it’s been about 15-16 months since I last read this… It’s more amusing then I remember ^_^
I would LOVE to learn that language!
And looks like somebody named Mike is in trouble, and it ain’t me…
so…..wizard’s spells are wingdings?
You figured that out too?
Well, not actually Wingdings, but symbols similar to them.
So, I wonder if in the future he’ll try to tell Mike his suspicions, but he’ll try to write the word down, rather than say it aloud. Hopefully he’ll tell Mike not to say it out loud as well.
That would be a good idea, but I wonder if writing it is just as bad…
I love this comic, just reread it again today 🙂
I love when people say that! 🙂
I’m re-reading it too! 😀
