I like today’s comic for two reasons, Pete (well, two in addition to its being Bardsworth and therefore just generally awesome):
First, there’s Mike’s response to catching the Grimble. Is he being merciful to the Grimble? Does he have some plan or ulterior motive, maybe a deal he wants to make with it or something? Either way, letting it go is a great move. Go, Mike.
Second, there’s the title of today’s comic. Despite not having seen Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure in probably seventeen years, I still figured out the reference in less than a minute. Well-chosen, Pete; my hat is off to you.
Ha ha! Yeah, in having to actually title all of my strips, I’ve been trying to use movie quotes and song titles where possible, just to see if people get them. 🙂
I agree with Andy4Hire, though I’m more partial to him being just forgiving and self-sacrificing. He’s not the type to hold grudges for long, and even in extreme circumstances, he cools down afterwards. Or maybe he’s aware of the cycle of revenge or such, and he wants to stop it in its tracks. Speculation is just fun! =P
It makes a lot of sense. If Mike takes revenge on the grimble under grimble law, he implicitly acknowledges grimble law as a whole, and legitimises the grimble’s pranks. If he rejects grimble law, he can still maintain that the pranks were wrong in the first place.
Of course, Mike might not have thought that through, but it’s a useful bonus.

There has to be a catch somewhere. The grimble will be let go, but…(something).

YES! Pee-wee reference in the title!
