*gasp* So Mike stumbling into a brand new world wasn’t just random chance? o.o And good to see you mixing up the talking heads with close up of their eyes. 🙂
Yeah, it’s always so difficult in a conversation-based storyline to make the compositions interesting. I’m thinking I’m going to have to have them get up from their seats soon or something.
My first thought on reading this was that it should have been obvious, since in the early strips we saw that Rayner was watching Mike even before he found the door into this world. My second thought was that it would have been too much of a coincidence for Rayner to just happen to have been watching the one person from our world who would find a way into his. And yet I never saw it coming. My last thought? You’re good, Pete!
I was just going through my RSS feeds, cleaning house a little, and noticed that I hadn’t gotten an update form bardsworth since February 9th -roughly when the site got redesigned. So i’ve caught up, but I’m sure you still have a few readers missing. I know with my nearly 100 subscriptions it’s easy to lose one in the mix, and i know many people have more than that. Just think that if you still have access to that old feed you may want to give those folks a heads up.
I gave all sorts of heads up before I made the switch. I’m not sure I can access the old feed at this time. Sorry for the inconvenience! (I was afraid of that happening…)
Wait. Wat. Fizzlebottom brought Mike to Bardsworth-World, but it wasn’t just chance that he found the world in his closet. It was Rayner bringing Mike into Bardsworth-World so that he could use Mike’s trimagus powers for his own evil purpose to overthrow Fizzlebottom, whose fault it is that Mike is even in Bardsworth school! That is just… awesome.
The picture I’m getting from Rayner’s statement is that Rayner, because of his own abilities, was able to sense that a person in our world, Mike, was another potential trimagus. He therefore created the door leading from Mike’s bedroom to Fizzlebottom’s house, knowing that Mike would eventually find it and go through. He also knew that once Fizzlebottom met Mike, he would also sense Mike’s abilities and would allow Mike to attend Bardsworth on the basis that allowing Mike to discover his powers but training Mike to control them was less risky overall than the possibility that Mike would discover them accidentally without learning control. So in one stroke Rayner insured that Mike would both be brought to the world of Bardsworth and trained to access the power that Rayner wanted to make use of.

See, I always thought it was Fizzlebottom that brought him to their world. And Rayner was just fully aware of what he was doing.
