Danyel’s reasoning in the first panel was pretty much what I expected. His plan (such as it is) in the fourth panel sounds like something he’d try to do, but somehow I still didn’t expect him to go that direction.
I thought about that too, but they’d have to actually learn a language there. The only reason anyone can understand Mike is because of Rayner’s spell. If they went to earth without him, they’d be stranded without a common language.
Ears not so much. That’s what polymorph spells are for. ^_^
Lack of ID is actually minor compared to their total lack of any paper trail. That might be more problematic. Then again, a rural community might still be a good place for them so long as they don’t mind living “off the grid”. @_@

Because a) the ears would be conspicuous, b) both of them have no legal identities on Earth?

Danyel is near graduation – I’d be surprised if he doesn’t know (or couldn’t master) the same spell.
